What is Benzocaine

What is Benzocaine and How it Cures Premature Ejaculation

If you have ever used delay wipes, a delay condom, or any premature ejaculation medicine, you must be familiar with benzocaine. It is one of the most used ingredients in premature ejaculation products.

This article covers everything you need to know about it including what is Benzocaine, its uses, and how it works to cure premature ejaculation.

Benzocaine is a local anesthetic that is used for pain management. It is classified as a local anesthetic. It is commonly sold as Orajel (its most common brand name). Benzocaine is an important component of cough drops as well as a topical pain reliever. This medicine causes loss of sensation in the skin and relieves pain from minor burns, insect bites, small wounds, and skin irritations.

But while benzocaine may be a well-known anesthetic, it also has another important function – and that’s its role in keeping you long under the sheets. How does it perform this function? Well, read on to find out.

Benzocaine structure

What is Benzocaine?

Benzocaine is pronounced BEN-zoe-Kane. It is a topical anesthetic applied to the mouth, skin, or gums where it acts as a numbing agent. It relieves itching and pain caused by conditions like sore throats, toothaches, and insect bites.

It is an important ingredient in many over-the-counter products such as gels, creams, liquids, pads, ointments, swabs, lozenges, and sprays. It is also available in prescription medications.

These products are also used for their numbing effects. Examples of name-brand products that contain benzocaine include Americaine, Cetacaine, and Orajel.

Benzocaine has a few side effects, including irritation and skin rash. According to the United States Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), over-the-counter benzocaine products should not be administered to infants because it has the potential to cause a rare blood condition known as methemoglobinemia.

It is important to note that the benzocaine compound is derived from ethanol and para-aminobenzoic acid. It is a crystalline powder, odorless, and white. Most of its actions are targeted at the neuronal membranes. It blocks nerve signals in the part of the body where it is applied.

Benzocaine Uses

Benzocaine is applied on the skin to stop pain and itching caused by certain conditions (like minor burns, scrapes, and insect bites), as well as for treatment of itching and minor discomfort caused by hemorrhoids and other anal/genital conditions (example itching around the rectum/vagina, and anal fissures). As a local anesthetic, benzocaine works by temporarily numbing the area of your skin on which it is applied.

1. How to Use Benzocaine as a Pain Reliever

You must study the instructions on the product package if you intend to use benzocaine to self-treat. If there’s anything that you don’t understand, then discuss it with your pharmacist. If it was prescribed by your doctor, then use it according to your doctor’s directive.

Before using benzocaine, clean the affected area and dry it. Apply some medication to the affected part of the skin. If you are using the spray form, then ensure that you shake the can vigorously before using the medication. Place the can 15-30 cm (6-12 inches) from the affected area and spray until it gets wet. Ensure that the spray doesn’t touch your nose, eyes, or mouth.

Benzocaine should not be used on large areas of the body. Cover broad or large body areas with plastic or waterproof bandages. Exposing large areas of your body to this medication may put you at risk of serious side effects.

2. Benzocaine is Used in Delay Products for Premature Ejaculation

Do you come faster than you’d like to when having sex?

Well, it is worth knowing that you are not the only one.

There’s no doubt that a good number of these people may have employed several methods to help them last longer under the sheets, methods like the edging or squeeze technique. But has anyone considered benzocaine wipes or benzocaine condoms?

Benzocaine wipes are also known as premature ejaculation wipes. They are disposable (non-reusable). These wipes are moistened with a numbing agent like benzocaine. What benzocaine does is numb the nerves that supply your penis thus slowing the ejaculation process.

Benzocaine wipes were first released in 2017. Its release was facilitated by a study published in The Journal of Urology. According to the study, using a benzocaine wipe on your penis before penetrative sex could help you last longer by delaying ejaculation.

It works.

You see, it is a local anesthetic that numbs the nerve endings under your skin.

When your nerves are stimulated, sodium ions flow to the nerve endings and activate them. Upon activation, the nerves send signals called action potential to the central nervous system. This causes you to feel a sensation.

Applying benzocaine to the skin blocks the flow channels that help sodium to activate those action potentials. The blocking of these channels causes you not to feel much when something makes contact with your nerves.

Benzocaine is common, no doubt. It is used for the topical treatment of cold sores. Wipes and condoms moistened with benzocaine may also delay ejaculation.

Benzocaine Side Effects

There may be some side effects to using benzocaine to delay ejaculation in products like condoms, wipes, and delay sprays. These include:

  1. Burns or friction injuries from rubbing and thrusting without feeling the friction.
  2. Erectile dysfunction is caused by a lack of sensation.

Benzocaine also has a few side effects that can give you an uncomfortable feeling in your penis. These include:

  • Burning
  • Skin flaking
  • Stinging
  • Itching
  • Warmth or redness
  • Tenderness.

In 2018, the FDA warned that benzocaine could contribute to the development of methemoglobinemia, a kind of blood disorder.

Methemoglobinemia is caused by the release of excess methemoglobin into your body. methemoglobin transports oxygen but unlike hemoglobin, it does not deposit this oxygen in cells of the body that need it.

Symptoms of methemoglobinemia include:

  • Headaches
  • Exhaustion
  • Light-headedness
  • Pale or bluish skin, nails, and lips.
  • Disorientation or confusion
  • Shortness of breath (dyspnea)
  • Tachycardia (when your heart beats faster than normal)

Most of these symptoms or warnings may apply to kids who are still undergoing teething. However, it also constitutes a risk for adults.

Benzocaine Dosage for Premature Ejaculation

For premature ejaculation, you will apply a small amount (7.5% gel) to your penis head at least 15-20 minutes before sex.

You can apply it with or without a condom. Ensure you wash it off after sex.

Conclusion

Premature ejaculation is a common condition. However, with benzocaine wipes, you can last longer under the sheets.

Dietary changes and lifestyle modifications when used alongside benzocaine wipes can cause immense improvements. You should also consult your doctor. He or she will suggest other tips that can help you last longer in bed.
