Getting rid of premature ejaculation (PE) and lasting longer in bed is something that every man wants. There are several ways to delay ejaculation as I have covered in previous posts here, here, and here. But when it comes to the natural way to delay ejaculation, nothing beats the squeeze technique.
It doesn’t just help you last longer in bed but it is extremely useful in curing premature ejaculation. It is a simple yet effective behavioral technique to orgasm at will.
This guide covers everything you want to know about this method: What exactly is the squeeze technique, how does it work, and how you can master it to last as long as you want?

What is Squeeze Technique?
The squeeze technique, also known as the pause-squeeze technique, start-squeeze technique, and edging, is a method to squeeze your penis when you are about to orgasm with an intention to stop ejaculation. It is a simple yet effective method to delay ejaculation without using any medicine.
It is called the squeeze method because you have to squeeze the head of your penis to stop sexual stimulation.
The squeeze method was introduced in the 1950s by sex researchers from the US: William H. Masters and Virginia E. Johnson. However, the technique has long been used by humankind for centuries. It became part of scientific research in the 1950s when Masters and Johnson talked about it.
So, it isn’t just a myth rather a proven (and clinically tested) method to delay ejaculation.
How Squeeze Method for Premature Ejaculation Works
The technique is straightforward.
You need to begin foreplay and sexual intercourse as usual. When you reach climax and are at the point to ejaculate or orgasm, stop moving and press your penis below its head for a few seconds.
Ideally, you need to squeeze your penis for 30 seconds to 1 minute. This will lower arousal and the need to orgasm will diminish.
You can then begin sexual intercourse once you are no more stimulated.
The squeeze technique is, therefore, a series of sequential steps that include:
- Stimulate
- Squeeze
- Pause.
You can repeat this cycle as long as you want. There is no limit to this squeeze-pause technique. And it has no known side effects so you are free to use it multiple times to satisfy yourself and your sexual partner.
The Science Behind Squeeze-Pause Technique
Scientifically, when you squeeze or press your penis to avoid ejaculation at the peak of stimulation, you actually squeeze two important muscles: Bulbospongiosus and ischiocavernosus.
These muscles play a key role in sexual response.
The bulbospongiosus muscle acts as a pump that is responsible for expelling sperms forcefully during the last stage of ejaculation. The ischiocavernosus muscle is responsible for the erection by providing your penis the rigidity it needs for erection.
When you squeeze your penis head to stop ejaculation, you stop bulbospongiosus muscle from pumping sperm out and this also impacts the ischiocavernosus muscle and you lose the rigid erection as these two muscles act together and the nerves pass through the shaft.
These muscles become active only when you are on the verge of orgasm and about to pump sperm out. So, squeezing your penis head for a few seconds at the last stage of the ejaculation will do two things:
- Stop ejaculation
- Lose some erection.
You won’t lose all the erection as the ischiocavernosus muscle is responsible for providing extra rigidity to an erect penis (usually you feel this when you are about to ejaculate).
Once you begin sexual intercourse again, you don’t start from the final stage of erection and ejaculation (when these two muscles work). You’ll start from a previous erection and ejaculation stages and this helps you stop ejaculation and start over again by a simple squeeze to your penis.
Does the Squeeze Technique Help You Last Longer in Bed?
Yes, it does.
The research on the effectiveness of the squeeze technique to delay ejaculation and cure premature ejaculation is limited.
Studies have found the squeeze process effective and helpful in treating premature ejaculation. The short-term benefits of the squeeze method are exceptional as it improves intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT) by as much as 45-65%. However, long-term benefits were found to be inconsistent and 75% of men reported no improvement after 3 years.
A review of 10 randomized controlled trial studies (521 participants) found that behavioral techniques (including squeeze method) are effective in delaying ejaculation but the effect of the squeeze technique increases significantly when combined with other drug treatments.
One study found that the squeeze technique increased ejaculation time (IELT) by 7 minutes and the results were consistent and significant 3 months after the treatment.
Of course, you can use the squeeze-pause technique alone to delay ejaculation and it will help you last longer in bed and delay ejaculation significantly. But if you want to increase the effectiveness of this technique, it is best to use it with a tablet, delay spray, or any other medication to multiply its impact.

Anyone can use the semen squeeze technique. It isn’t a technique labeled specifically for use by men who are suffering from PE. You can use it to delay ejaculation and have more fun with your partner in bed. So, even if you aren’t suffering from premature ejaculation or any other sexual disorder, you can still use the squeeze process to delay orgasm.
Step-by-Step Guide to Squeeze Technique to Last Longer in Bed
If you are planning to use the pause squeeze method to have full control over ejaculation, this step-by-step guide will help you fully understand and practice it like a pro.
Here are steps involved in the squeeze technique to delay climax:
- Stimulate
- Squeeze
- Pause
- Repeat.
1. Stimulate
Begin sexual intercourse as usual with your sex partner.
If you prefer using a desensitizing product (e.g., delay spray or delay wipe) or any drug (e.g., OTC supplement or prescription drug), use them as normal. Studies show that the effectiveness of the squeeze method is increased when it is used in combination with another treatment method.
If you don’t use any medication or if you aren’t suffering from rapid ejaculation, no need to use any medication. Start your normal sexual process in any way you like.
2. Squeeze
You don’t have to ejaculate during sexual intercourse when following the squeeze technique. When you are about to reach climax and you feel that you are about to cum, stop there and pull your penis out.
This is the time when you have to squeeze it.
You need to squeeze your penis from the part that’s right below the penis head. This is the area where the head joins the shaft. Press this area from the side where you feel a thick nerve. You can use fingers and thumb to hold, squeeze, and apply pressure on your penis.
It is recommended to make a circle of your index finger and thumb and place it just below your penis head and squeeze. This will apply pressure equally on all sides of your penis.
The idea is to stop ejaculation and don’t let yourself orgasm.
3. Pause
Squeezing your penis isn’t enough. You need to pause the squeeze for 30-60 seconds.
This means you need to keep your penis squeezed for at least 30 seconds or when the feeling to ejaculate is gone (whichever comes first).
Holding your penis like this for a few seconds is required to achieve two things:
- Stop ejaculation
- Normalize your body and penis so you come out of the sexual stimulation.
4. Repeat
Finally, when you feel that you are no more stimulated, you can release your penis and proceed with sexual intercourse.
When you are about to ejaculate, pull out, squeeze, and pause… You can repeat this as many times as you need. There are no restrictions.
Initially, you might not be able to do it as I have described above because it isn’t easy to pull your penis out and squeeze it at the peak when you are about to orgasm.
It is hard, I must say. And requires a lot of practice.
You need to keep doing it. Even if you fail, don’t stop practicing. And once you master this technique, you’ll be able to ejaculate at will without even squeezing your penis. You’ll be able to stop ejaculation by stopping the movement of your penis.
But to reach this stage, you’ll need to consistently practice the squeeze method.
